Franklin Lakes Public Library – Seeking Library Director

The Franklin Lakes Public Library is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced, high-performing, and motivated professional to join us as our Library Director. Our Library educates, informs, and offers an attractive meeting place for our residents, providing significant intellectual and social value to our community. We are pro-active in our Borough, working with our top-rated schools and other community groups. The Director will lead 40 full and part time staff, who continue to expand our product offerings, while we are adapting our physical spaces to the new operating environment. Our Library operates in a beautiful suburban setting and serves 10,000+ Franklin Lakes residents. We are a leading provider of services to 70 + libraries in the BCCLS consortium. We plan to make further investments in our technology and attractive facility to improve our patron and staff experience.

Qualities and Responsibilities: The Library Director reports to the Franklin Lakes Public Library Board of Trustees and is the executive responsible for managing library activities and building operations. Specifics include:

Leadership

  • Leading the library team innovatively
  • Fostering open communication with staff and patrons
  • Maintaining a safe environment

Vision

  • Developing our five-year Strategic Plan
  • Prioritizing our Capital Investments program
  • Preparing for the post-pandemic operating environment including use of new technologies such as MeeScan

Outreach

  • Increasing community patronage through innovative marketing
  • Interfacing with our dedicated Friends of the Library to deliver outstanding programs to our residents – including both young and senior patrons
  • Serving as liaison to BCCLS
  • Managing relationships with Franklin Lakes seniors, schools and other user groups

Patron Satisfaction

  • Updating collection materials to satisfy our avid library patrons
  • Overseeing the development of creative children’s programs and reading skills
  • Providing programs and meeting space for groups from young adults through seniors

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS, MLIS or MSLS) from an ALA accredited school
  • New Jersey Professional Librarian Certification is required
  • Library experience in administrative and supervisory positions (5 years or more)
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion and vision for ever-changing collection and digital capabilities
  • Knowledge of current trends in customer experience improving technologies
  • Experience with a governing Board and related Committees
  • Participation in library cooperatives, with BCCLS experience a plus
  • Residency requirements as set forth in NJ First Act Residency Law

Compensation

  • Salary is competitive and commensurate with both the candidate’s experience and the importance of the Director’s role in our community and will exceed NJLA minimum requirements
