Digital and Emerging Technology Reference Librarian FT

Union Public Library, serving a diverse middle-class community of more than 58,000 residents in two locations is seeking an experienced Digital and Emerging Technology Librarian. UPL will soon be undergoing a major renovation to the Main Library. It is an exciting time to be part of this team! Reporting to the Head of Adult Services/Assistant Director, and working closely with the IT technician, the incumbent performs professional level work in the implementation, support, and enhancement of a range of digital technologies, and information resources to ensure continued access to the library’s resources for both internal and external customers. Additionally, they will provide Reference Desk assistance, conducts instructional public programs on select topics, and provide one-on-one technology assistance to staff and the public.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide accurate reference and readers advisory to patrons of all ages utilizing the online catalog, books, reference sources, bibliographies, databases and the Internet.
  • May serve as liaison with select outside community groups and represent the library by promoting literacy, and library resources.
  • Research and report on emerging technologies appropriate for Union Public Library.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment and enhancement of existing resources and technologies related to library services and e-resources including OPAC.
  • Schedule includes one evening per week and one Saturday per month (occasionally more as needed).
  • Point person for vendors of e-resources, maintain schedule of renewals, gathering invoices and passing them to the Accounts Clerk for payment.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement technology training for staff and programming for the public.
  • Keeps informed of current trends and issues in public libraries.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from a library program accredited by ALA or one that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.
  • Ability to lead and be part of a team.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.
