Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Library Director, plans, organizes, and directs user services such as services related to adult, reference, readers advisory, circulation, collection development, oversees and supervises the paraprofessional staff, performs community outreach, partnerships, and related work as assigned. The Senior Librarian for user services performs professional administrative duties that include supervising the daily operation of the library, especially in the absence of the Library Director. Primary Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Assumes leadership role including administrative and supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Library Director.
  • Supervises, schedules, assigns duties and oversees the day-to-day user services of part-time staff.
  • Conducts annual evaluations of part-time paraprofessionals and support staff.
  • Assists the Library Director in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, programs, procedures, and work standards.
  • Collaborates with the Library Director on hiring decisions and provides feedback on performance matters.
  • Participates in the long-range planning process for the library, including recommending changes or improvements and developing new types of services and operations.
  • Provides strong knowledge of collection development, reference, readers advisory, and digital e-resources.
  • Supervises staff training of emerging technologies and provides computer and research assistance to the public.
  • Plans, and promotes innovative library programs, instructions, and services for community engagement and outreach.
  • Develops grants for library programs and services as appropriate and available.
  • Leads the design and provides support for updates and maintenance of the library web page.
  • Evaluates, purchases, installs, and maintains library hardware, software, and all related items.
  • Creates and maintains a welcoming, organized, accessible, and safe environment for patrons and staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible/supervisory experiences
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Great team-building and management skills, including experiences with collaboration, leadership, and technology management.
  • A master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited Program.
  • A New Jersey Professional Librarian Certificate.
  • The ability to bend, push, and lift to 25 lbs. including emptying book bins, packing, and handling shipments of library materials.
Salary: Starts at $63,213.00 annually depending on experience and qualification; A benefits package includes health, dental, vision insurances, PERS, and a commitment to professional development.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week) position that includes some evenings and weekends. The successful applicant must pass a criminal background check and a six-month probation period.
