As limited public forums, NJLA supports the use of public spaces in libraries for a wide variety of activities. Libraries may limit certain services and resources to residents and cardholders, but should in all other respects welcome members of the public into their public spaces.

A library may designate one or more rooms as public meeting spaces or meeting rooms, which may be reserved in advance. If it does so, the library should have policies governing the use of those spaces or rooms which are consistent with the library’s mission. Such policies should provide for equitable access, be consistently applied, and be readily available to the public.
